Boracay in December (2011 Ed)

I'm pretty sure people would agree that Boracay is almost synonymous to summer. Everyone wants to soak up the sun on the perfectly milled white sands and cool off in the cold and (almost always) clear waters by the beach. That's probably the reason why rates are ridiculously high and the island is just too congested with tourists during the said season.

Because my friends and I don't want to pay for sky-high prices on tickets and accommodations, we decided to go there during the time people would least likely go there: December.

We booked the cheapest flights available. Without insurance fee, round-trip tickets were about 1,500php.

On board en route Kalibo via Zest Air

 Hello, Boracay!

Nope, that's not a whale. That's just me. :) Hahaha!

We wanted to go epic.

White Christmas tree in a white-sanded beach :)
Yes, as in Epic in Station 2 Boracay.

MOJITO!
Their happy hour is around lunchtime (weird, eh?).
180php for all cocktails, buy 1 take 1.

A bucket of Strong Ice

Since we want a "couch" where we can leave our things in and where we can lie down and get a tan, we had to purchase a bucket of Strong Ice. I'm not exactly sure how much that was and if there's an extra fee for the couch. (I'm sorry, I was too excited to go in the water so I neglected Strong Ice).

The Waterproof Bag

Yow?! WTH?! :))
A friend was trying to take a stolen shot. Sorreh!
The bag / pouch I was holding is a waterproof bag.
It's spacious enough for my itouch, BlackBerry, money, lipstick, and keys.
This pouch is sooo cool! The front and back parts are clear, so you can use your itouch and iphone to take photos under water. It costs 250php, I got it in D*Mall.

Again
Look! We're sporting the same pouch, just in different colors. :)

Hellooooo! <3

Where We Stayed?

We stayed in Island Nook. It was more of a backpacker's lodge than a hotel.
It's a small place with a diner-ish restaurant inside.
I love the humorous posters that's all over the place
(The 3 of us paid for 2,600php each. The room we got is good for 4, and we stayed for 3 nights and 4 days.)

My favorite! <3

Funny, but true. (Admit it or not!)

These girls gotta eat!

I forgot what's the name of this sandwich. Army / Navy?

We ate in Jonah's Fruit Shake in Station 1. I'm sorry I forgot to take photos of their shakes.
My favorite is their Mocha Shake (90php, more or less)

I can't call it street food. Sand food, perhaps?

In Station 1, near Guilly's, there's a stand / kiosk that sells any meat they can barbecue.
My favorite is their Chori Burger. (Chori for Chorizo).
It's really delicious! You can have it spicy or just with the regular ketchup.
I think it's 25php-35php.

Hello there, Tourist!

Another stolen shot.Pfft.
It was my second time in Boracay, but this is the first time I had my hair braided.
I wanted something girly and subtle, so I chose a French braid.
Costs 150php.

Our last night. Our last walk on the beautiful beach for 2011.
This was a rather depressing walk. I wanted to stay a little longer, but of course, I have to go back to my life here in Manila. Boracay is such a liberating place for me. I shall elaborate on this in another post / blog. ;)

TIPS: If you want to save on tickets and accommodation and avoid the huge crowd, AVOID the peak season. You will see the difference and I'm sure you'll enjoy it more. The December weather is just perfect. The sun wasn't that hot. Yes it rained but it wasn't all day. Maybe for 2-3 hours (happened on our 3rd day there only). Eating and chugging down shakes in Jonah's Fruit Shake is a MUST! Same goes with the Chori Burger. :) The bars all over the island offers happy hour at different times so stroll and look around first when you want to drink at the best price available. If you're into water sports or activities, the waterproof bag is a great investment.

Last, but certainly not the least, have fun! It's Boracay! You don't get to see a paradise like this everyday (except if you live there, of course).

Smile, SPF-ize, and Swim! <3

  6. Being practical could always save something for good. Others my agree or disagree that Boracay is synonymous to summer. Yes it could be for those who could afford to spend their hard-earned money to spend summer vacation there. And no for those who have not a penny to do it or no desire to go for a vacation to the place like Boracay. It's good of you and the rest of your company that you've enjoyed though it's just a short sojourn in Boracay. Soon you'll be going again there to revitalize yourself again.

    1. Yes we will, Sir Gil. :) We're fortunate enough to afford it as long as it's not on peak season. Hehe. It's an annual tradition for me and my friends to visit Boracay every December. Though I am looking forward to visiting other beaches here in our country. :)

I was given two RT tickets by the airline company I worked for and decided to take my parents with me. It was parents first ever plane ride!your post brought back memoemories of lazy afternoons in the beach and first stint on scuba diving!

    1. In fairness, di naman ganun kalamig. Maaraw pa din naman, pero hindi lang kasing humid kapag summer. Saktong init lang to get a tan. :)

  23. I just booked and will be in Boracay in December for 3 days and solo! any recommendations?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 1.) Go to Jonah's and try their shakes and sandwiches.
2.) Try the Chori Burger (a kiosk near Guilly's in Station 1)
3.) If you wanna get drunk, try Juice Bar in Station 2. Their "Adios Motherfucker" is the BOMB.
4.) I wouldn't recommend Island Hopping since you're going solo, unless you can afford it. :D
5.) Get the waterproof bag!!! It's a MUST!
6.) Do you already have a hotel? I suggest you stay in Station 2 para accessible sa lahat :)
